On Sunday, Mum and I headed down the freeway to the Piccadilly Markets in Geelong (Vic). We had such a lovely day. Our stall was right by the window, so we had waterfront views all day!! We met such lovely customers and stall holders and the building itself was amazing. I do hope we can return next year for the markets. Thank you to everyone who purchased on the day.

Lest We Forget....from a 5 year old's point of view

Today marks Remembrance Day in Australia. Remembrance day marks the anniversary of the armistice which ended World War I (1914-1918). Every year, Australians observe one minute silence at 11am on 11 November, in memory of those who died or suffered in all wars and armed conflicts.

The Australian War Memorial website has a wonderfully detailed explanation of Remembrance Day and its significance to the life of Australians.

My boys have their poppies, given to them by my Mum. Mr 5 is excited about taking his to Kindy. My Grandpa, their Great Grandpa, was in Papua New Guinea during World War II.

Mr 5 told me the most gorgeous story a few months back. He told all his Kindy friends that his Great Grandpa George was a "superhero" because he went to war for his country. I must admit, I had tears in my eyes as he recounted his story, as my Grandpa meant the world to me (Mr 5 is named after him). I think it is just such a wonderful and childlike interpretation of what all these wonderful men and women do for our country.

The Ribbon Driveway!

I have one of those 70s driveways, you know the ones with the grass strip right up the middle. There is a patch that never grows as the car is always parked on it! I am not really a lover of my driveway! I have contemplated replacing it, but would not be a cheap process!

That was until I came across this article on Apartment Therapy. Apparently, my 70s driveway is actually called a 'Ribbon Driveway' and Ribbon Driveways are very popular and pretty in parts of the US!!! Perhaps I will stick with it a little longer!!!

Over the last few months, I have been busily working on the Christmas 2011 Range. I am pleased to say that the range is now available for sale in both my online stores - here or here!

I really love the traditional red/green/white trees, yet love the freshness of the pink/white/green colour palette.

These cards are designed to be a little different, something to stand out from the crowd on that mantle piece! They are meant for the special people in your life.

$1 from every pack sold will go towards the Royal Children's Hospital Foundation (Melbourne). I have now had 2 of my boys have long stints in this hospital, and to say that this hospital is amazing is an understatement.

A refreshing break

I have just returned from a lovely break on the Sunshine Coast (Queensland, Australia) with my little family. It was truly a magical holiday. We spent 10 uninterrupted days just being with the kids. Our days consisted of the park, the beach, the pool and generally the gelato shop!!! To see the smiles on their faces from doing the simple things in life was wonderful. We did manage to fit in a few touristy things, like Australia Zoo (which was fabulous!).

Now we are back in rainy old Melbourne!! Hubby is back at work, my eldest is back at Kindy and the washing and housework continue!!!

I hope everyone has been keeping well.

It has been a long time since my last blog post, 4 months in fact. My blogging break wasn't an intentional one, life just forced it upon me I suppose. A few things happened, good and not so good, that caused me to lose my blogging mojo. I found myself taking a complete break from blogland. Nonetheless, all is great here now at Here We Go Loopy Lou Headquarters! I am looking forward to getting back into blogging and to reading all your amazing blogs once again.

Over the last few months, I have been busy working on new designs and ideas, including the 2011 Christmas Range. I have also been busy with some projects around our house. And of course I have been thoroughly enjoying spending time with the 3 little men in my life. My eldest son is off to school next year, and I have to say, I am already feeling a little sentimental about it all!!!

I look forward to sharing all of this with you.

Mr Loopy Lou and I celebrated our 11 year wedding anniversary on Friday. I cannot help think that 11 years ago we were here on our honeymoon, heaven on earth, aka the Maldives! To say this place is Paradise is an understatement. I have never seen such crystal clear waters and white sand in my entire life. Stunning, stunning, stunning!

I would be back there in an instant if I could! Where in the world would you be today if you could?!

This week I am grateful for 'those' photos! You know 'those' photos that make you melt everytime you see, no matter how many times you see them? We all have them. It might be a favourite holiday, your wedding, your family, your friends, your kids. Whatever it is, we all have them.

This is one of my favourite photos ever. It is tiny as it was snapped on my old, dodgy mobile phone but I just adore it. I seriously smile every single time I see it. The photo is of my 2 eldest boys, my baby (at the time!) was only 2 weeks old. I just melt everytime I see the look of love and adoration my eldest has for his little brother here. It is still there to this day. Sure, they can argue over the silliest of things and drive each other bananas, but they do love each other!

Mr Loopy Lou's Birthday!

Mr Loopy Lou recently had a Birthday! The boys and I bought him tickets to the upcoming Tutankhamum Exhibition at the Melbourne Museum. I thought it would be a lovely outing for Hubby, Mr 5 and I.

Hubby and I had the privilege of visiting Egypt for 3 weeks back in 2004. To say it was the holiday of a lifetime is an understatement! Words cannot describe how amazing it was! We did so many amazing things - going inside the Pyramids of Giza, floating along the majestic Nile on a Felucca, venturing into the tombs in the Valley of the Kings, watching the sunrise at Abu Simbel, riding camels and camping in the Sinai desert, climbing Mt. Sinai at 2am to watch the sunrise and swimming in the Red Sea.

I still remember coming face-to-face with King Tut's Death Mask at the Egyptian Museum. All gold and sparkly and completely surreal. We are really looking forward to seeing this exhibition and sharing our passion for Egypt with our 5 year old son. He is already showing interest in Egypt and I am so proud!!!

This was me exactly one year ago today!

On April 6th 2010, we welcomed a beautiful baby boy into our family. This little boy, our 3rd son, has completed our family and enriched our lives in ways that I find hard to put into words. We just love and adore him! I am thankful every single day that he was blessed upon us.

So Happy 1st Birthday for tomorrow our precious little man. May your day be everything you deserve and more xxxx

This week I am grateful for the Zoo. My little family has spent endless hours wandering around the Zoo over the last 5 years. Our Friends of the Zoo pass gives me endless "excuses" to spend time with the 3 little men in my life. We never get sick of visiting the Zoo, everytime is a different experience. Although right now, Mr 5 and Mr 3 are obsessed with the reptiles!

A little update

Mum and I had a wonderful time at The Square Market in Bendigo on Saturday. Thank you to the lovely girls at the Square and the people of Bendigo for making it such an enjoyable day. Babushkas were the theme of the day, they literally walked off the table!

I sold out of so many designs on the day, which was great! I have been shopping up a storm for new fabrics to create some fantastic new designs, which will be ready in time for the North Melbourne Market on April 17th!

I have also recently introduced a lot of new products into the Made It Store including Mother's Day Cards, Vintage Fabric Greeting Cards, New Baby Cards, Fabric Gift Tags and Bookmarks. I would love you to pop past and take a look.

The Square this coming Saturday...

Just a quick note to let you know I will be at The Square Bendigo on Saturday March 26th from 10am to 4pm. The Square is a fabulous Boutique Market located in the heart of Bendigo (Victoria). It is a leisurely drive from Melbourne, so it would make a great day out if you are not local!

As many of you know, I have been working on some new designs for the store. The greeting card packs have always been so popular, that I wanted to keep them in the Here We Go Loopy Lou range. I have used some of the fabrics that have sold so well, I have just revamped the cards themselves. The cards in the greeting card packs are now square with rounded corners. The cards and the envelopes are all made from recycled card/paper. I really like the make-over and I hope you do too!

I did toss up whether I should offer them as boxed sets. At this stage, I have decided against it. My reason being that it would add to the cost of the cards themselves and to the postage. I would love your thoughts and feedback on the box issue!

The fabric gift tags were also really popular at Christmas time, so I have also added some fabric gift tags to the Here We Go Loopy Lou range. These are available in a range of designs and colours.

Grateful For...

This week I am grateful for some extra special time with this little man - my 2nd son who is 3 years old. While his older brother is at Kindy and his baby brother slumbers away, we spend some lovely qualilty time together. Our favourite things to do are dancing to the Wiggles, doing jigaw puzzles, playing Duplo, building elaborate train tracks and giggling!! I am cherishing every moment we 'steal' together, as next year he too will be off to Kindy.

Before I was a Mum...!

Most of you know that I am a Mum to three wonderful little men. I became a Mum on February 19th 2006 and I have never looked back. Becoming a Mum is by far the best thing I have ever done in my life. My three sons are my greatest achievements in this world. They make me smile, they make me laugh, they make my heart melt, they make me so proud, and yes, sometimes they make me want to pull my hair out!! Most of what I write about on this blog is about my experience of being a Mum. However, how many of you know what I did before I became a Mum!??!

Before I became a Mum, I was a Social Worker. I studied for 5 years at University to obtain my Bachelor of Arts/Social Work Degree. I then worked in Health for 10 years. I worked at several large public hospitals in Melbourne and truly enjoyed it. I worked in so many different areas including Aged Care, Oncology, Haematology, Rehabilitation, Neurosurgery, Emergency Care, Drug and Alcohol Counselling and Kidney Dialysis and Transplantation. After several years of being a Social Worker, I needed another challenge, so I began my Masters Degree in Health Social Work. For 3 years, I worked full-time and studied part-time. It was a balancing act, but so rewarding. I completed my thesis not long before my 1st son was born. In fact, he came to my Graduation Ceremony when he was only 2 weeks old! He was very proud!!!

I have been back to work since having my first son and I have loved it! I have been doing locum work so I can work around the needs of my little family. Most recently, just before my 3rd son was born, I did some research work in Oncology and found that interesting and challenging.

In the near future, I will also share another love of mine before having children, travel!!

So that is what I did before becoming a Mum! So to all my lovely readers, I would love to hear more from you about what you did (and in many cases still do!) before becoming a Mum or changed your career path in some way.

Birthday Celebrations..

We recently celebrated 3 Birthdays in our home. One of my little men turned 3, another turned 5 and I turned, well, 35!

I love celebrating my boys Birthdays. They get so excited about having a special day all to themselves. Every year, I cannot believe how fast they are growing up and I get very sentimental!

The Birthday Cake has become a real tradition in our home, like in many homes I suspect! They pour through the Women's Weekly Cake Book trying to find the one that is just right for them. I just love it!

My (now!) 3 year old son is currently obsessed with Tigers. He loves visiting them at the Zoo and (unfortunately!) he also loves the AFL team too! So, of course, he set hubby and I the task of making a "tiger Birfday cake cake"! The one in the Women's Weekly looked a little scary for our liking! We used the shape template from the book, but made the face up as we went! What do you think? He looks like he approves!

My eldest son, now 5, is absolutely obsessed with Lego right now. He loves everything about it! So of course he decided he wanted a Lego themed Birthday this year.

We held his Birthday party at the Lego Centre (or the Lego Shop as he calls it!). He had his gorgeous friends there to help him celebrate his very special day. He beamed with happiness the whole time. I had a tear in my eye watching him!

Of course he set us the task of a Lego Birthday cake. Hmmmm, we thought! Then the lovely Cat from Raspberry Rainbow stepped in. She lent me a Lego mould which was perfect for the cake!! Thanks so much Cat! Unfortunately, we had to take the little man to Emergency on the night before his Birthday with an asthma attack. So, his cake wasn't what we had planned (ran out of time!). However, he was happy with what we managed to piece together at midnight!!

Happy Birthday beautiful boys, I love you! Soon we will be celebrating my little, little man's 1st Birthday.....

New instore.....

Over the break, I worked on quite a few new things for the Made It Store. I want to add some new and exciting products to the store. All still of course made from fabric!!

These fabric top notes are the first new thing I will be introducing to the store. I just love top notes myself. I love the shape, I love the size, I love the romance of them and I love the versatility of them. I think they would make great gift tags or even as a little note card for someone special in your life.

I have several designs available in the Made It Store, I would love you to pop past and take a look.

This year, my aim is to work on my product photograpy skills. I might sound like I have a big head, but I am quite chuffed with my efforts here! Hubby was impressed too!!!

Thank you so much to everyone for your lovely Birthday wishes. I had such a special day as I spent it with my family!

I spent the morning at the Zoo with 3 exceptionally handsome men, my 3 sons!!! We are no strangers to the Zoo as we are FOTZ members (best money we have ever spent!). I had a lovely morning strolling around in the sunshine and looking at reptiles (our favourite right now!). We were even lucky enough to spot the baby Orangutan - so cute!!!

I spent a lovely evening having dinner with my sons, hubby, Mum, Dad, Brother, Sister-in-law and little niece. It was just a lovely day!

In a few short days, we will be celebrating my son's 5th Birthday, which we are all super excited about. A Lego party of course!!!

I am back from my longer than anticipated break!! Honestly, I was enjoying spending time with my little boys and doing some projects around the home so much that time simply got away from me! More of all that later!

I have re-opened the Made It Store again. I have a bunch of new and exciting products to photograph and upload in the coming days/weeks. However, it is stocked full of some trusty old favourites for now!

It is actually my Birthday today! Being the 15th of February, I have decided to offer 15% off everything in the Made It Store until Sunday evening (20th February). Taking a little break and a SALE!

2010 has been a wonderful year for Here We Go Loopy Lou. I have had so many wonderful things happen with the business and I am so pleased that so many people now have a Here We Go Loopy Lou card they can call their own!

It is time for me to take a little break though. I will be closing my online store on Friday December 17th (around 5pm!) and I intend to re-open towards the end of January again.

I intend to spend oodles and oodles of time with my 3 little boys, my hubby, my family and my friends. I will be spending time at the park, the Zoo, swimming at the pool and all the other wonderful things I love to do with my family and friends. I want to celebrate my son's 3rd Birthday and I want to prepare my eldest son for 4 year old Kindy. He will be at Kindy 3 days next year, and then off to school, so I want to savour every minute I have with him now! I want to enjoy those snuggly baby cuddles with my 8 month old son.

I also want to think about where Here We Go Loopy Lou will head in 2011 and I want to design and create some new ranges for 2011.

I will be taking a complete break from blogging, Facebook and Twitter. I still intend to visit, just not post things myself.

I have been going "greener" with Here We Go Loopy Lou as of late. I try to be as green as I can at home, so I am also wanting to be greener when it comes to Here We Go Loopy Lou.

You will notice that my Christmas Cards this year have recycled envelopes. Once I work through my envelope stash, I will shift to recycled envelopes for the range. I have also introduced recycled cardstock, and again, once I work through my current stash, I will be using recycled cardstock for the range.

I also have plans for a new range for 2011 that will fit nicely into this greener approach! Stay tuned!

I recently met with Amber of Love AJ. Love AJ creates windswept and interesting artwork using vintage kimono and sari fabrics and papers imported from around the world. Personally, I think Amber's artwork is stunning, intricate and very unique, a great present for a special person in your life.

Over the weekend, my family got to see how the other half live!

We went to the Family Open Day at Dame Elisabeth Murdoch's farm. May I just say, I could become accustomed to this style of living! It was an absolutely beautiful property full of gardens, trees and lakes. We enjoyed a picnic by the lake and drank in the view and the tranquility.

We also enjoyed a spot of tennis on "our" tennis court!

Hubby and I did have a chuckle on the way out. We see that even Dame Elisabeth Murdoch puts out her hard rubbish. It was a small vacuum cleaner. Hubby said it was probably the one they use for the car! The inside one would have to be huge!

Fairy Floss Market in Williamstown

Mum, Ned and I had a great time at the Fairy Floss Market in Williamstown on Sunday. We enjoyed chatting away to other stall holders and seeing some familiar faces. Ned was such a good little man, and quite enjoyed some attention away from his brothers I think! Hubby and the big boys did pop past and say hello. My beautiful little niece Charlotte also popped in (with my brother and sister-in-law). Perhaps I will have all 4 of the kids helping in the family business one day, ha ha!!!

This year was the first year that I did a Christmas range for Here We Go Loopy Lou. I had a really great time choosing fabrics and coming up (with what I hope are!) eye catching designs! Although, I do think the fabric does this all by itself. I just love it!

I was really taken aback with the response to the range earlier this month. Given this, I decided to restock these designs and add another.

My 4 year old son has been thinking about his upcoming 5th Birthday (in February mind you!). He has kindly decided that he would love a Lego Birthday cake! Mental note – google how to make one! It got me thinking, that a Lego themed Birthday party would be so cool.

The Power of Lego!

My 4 year old son LOVES Lego, he could build it for hours and hours. I love that he loves it. Lego is a classic and educational toy. It has really helped him learn to follow instructions and problem solve. It helps that Hubby and I love building it with him! An Engineering Degree would be handy though!

When he was in hospital, I felt so desperately sad for him. He decided that the Lego City Police Station would help him feel better! Usually I wouldn't buy into such things, but he was so sick. I rang around every shop looking for this station, quite rare as I discovered! Anyway, I am glad I did. He absolutely squealed with delight when he saw it. His heart rate literally sky rocketed to a point that it set off the alarms on his monitors! I am not exaggerating here, the very next day he started getting better. He was building the Lego with his one hand (drip in the other), thanking us the whole time and telling all the staff how lucky he was.

What a brave little man! I now believe in the power of Lego!

The Modern Household Manual

I recently purchased “The Modern Household Manual”. I grabbed it as I saw it was written by Caroline Roessler, the editor of the Notebook: Magazine. Sadly, this delightful magazine is no longer in print, it was one of my favourites.

This book is full of great tips for organising and cleaning your kitchen and laundry. I don’t know about you, but I wish my washing machine looked cleaner than it does! To keep it clean, every couple of months or so, set your machine on boil wash and add a little vinegar to the dispenser and wash without clothes. Voila!

I’ll share some more tips and tricks as I read more!

Home from hospital at last

My 4 year old son was in hospital for 10 days, but I am so pleased to say that the beautiful little man is once again home where he belongs.

He was admitted to the Royal Children’s Hospital with pneumonia. Unfortunately, he suffered several complications and ended up being a very, very sick little boy. I can honestly say that I have never been so frightened in my entire life. Watching my child fight for every breath he took was terrifying. All I could do was hold his hand, beg him to fight it and just hope and pray. With the love and support of his family and friends, the little trooper got through it and is now home and on the road to recovery. He has a long way to go, but he is home with his family where he belongs.

I have always appreciated the fact I have 3 healthy children, but I am even more appreciative of this now. We saw some really sad things while we were in hospital. I truly admire and respect all the parents supporting their children with chronic and life threatening illnesses. I also take my hat off to all the staff at the Royal Children’s Hospital. They are an amazing group of people who treated us with such care and professionalism.

I have used this photo (click on photo for source), as my little man had to blow bubbles as part of his Physiotherapy. He loved that part!

Our family of 5

6 months ago we became a family of 5. It has been a busy 6 months! Lots of nappy changes, feeds and broken sleep! Most importantly … it has been full of cuddles, of laughs, of smiles, of bonding and of love.

I always hoped for 3 children and for as long as I can remember, I knew I would have boys. As I look at this photo, I realise how blessed I am to have a happy and healthy family. And that is what I am grateful for today.

I am back from a little blog break!

God bless the little man in this photo, but after being such a great little sleeper, he decided to wake up each day at 5am, which in turn woke up the other 2 boys. So I made the decision to spend the time I wasn't tired and grumpy with the 3 little men in my life instead of the computer! It was just lovely!

I also had the Fairy Floss Markets to prepare for. I had Mum and Ned help me again on Sunday. We had a lovely day together and I got to meet some blog friends in real life too! Hello to Cat, Mich, Louise and Irene. I also met some lovely new people on the day too. Little Ned was a trooper and enjoyed batting his eye lids at everyone! Thanks to Mum for helping me out too! She had the 'hard' job of making sure Ned was nice and happy!

On October 3rd, I will be a stall holder at the launch of the Fairy Floss Markets in Doncaster. Mum and Ned will be with me to help out again!

I am really excited about being involved in a launch market again. I hear it is going to be great!

Door entry proceeds are being donated to Very Special Kids. As a Social Worker, I have worked with this organisation a few times and cannot speak highly enough of them. They help so many families who have children with a life threatening illness.

Bedroom sneak peak

A little while ago, I gave you a peak into my eldest son's room. Here is a little look at my 2 year old son's room. He loves anything with wheels right now! His little shelf here fluctuates between all his trains and cars, or his farm house and animals. It looks neat right now, but trust me, it rarely looks like this! Of course he had to come and investigate while I was taking the photos!

I decorated this room when we moved in nearly 2 years ago. A trusty Expedit unit from Ikea holds many of his toys and books. I also made a toy box from an Ikea Snack Box (I think it was called something like that!) - a coat of paint and some letters from Spotlight. Some Moo wall stickers above a painted border. He also has prints from The Little Humbugs and My Sweet Prints. It is a really sweet room to match my sweet little man!

Happy Birthday Mum!

My lovely Mum had a significant Birthday yesterday! I won't say how old, she reads this blog and might kill me, ha ha! Anyway, I wanted to do something really special for her. She is a wonderful Mum and a wonderful Ma and deserves a super special day!

I came across Louise's work - The Little Humbugs - a little while ago when searching for artwork for my 2 year old son's room. I instantly fell in love with her work, and he now has two prints sitting proudly on his wall.

Anyway, back to the point! I asked Louise to do some custom artwork for the playroom at Mum's home. I asked for the 4 grandchildren, and to somehow have a red wagon (ours gets a regular workout and holds a special place in our home). Louise came up with this absolutely stunning piece of work. I gasped when I saw it I just loved it so much. This photo just does not do full justice to the artwork.

Mum adores her 4 grandchildren, so I think this was a very fitting present. She adores it!

If you haven’t already noticed (!), Here We Go Loopy Lou has undergone some big changes in the past few weeks. Thanks to Samone at Red Letter Studio, we have a completely new look.
I started Here We Go Loopy Lou in June 2009. I started by making fabric greeting cards for little ones. As time went by, I also started to love making fabric cards for big people too! While I will always love my dancing children logo, I felt it was time for a change.

I really love the new look. It is fresh, bright and fun!

Monday Mention – Sugar and Spice Boutique Children’s Market

This week I am pleased to be featuring Sugar and Spice Boutique Children’s Market. Ali is the creative force behind this absolutely stunning market. It is a boutique children’s market set in the very picturesque town of Woodend Victoria (Australia). Ali really saw the need for boutique children’s markets in non metro areas of Victoria. And boy was Ali spot on. The launch market in June was HUGE HUGE HUGE!

I was lucky enough to be involved in the launch market in June. It was full of amazing stall holders. The vibe was amazing and the hall was always full of shoppers. Did you know that the Cupcake Stall sold out in a mere 2 hours!!!!

Sugar and Spice (Woodend) will be on again in September and December. Woodend is a super easy drive from Melbourne, just straight up the Calder Freeway. Eat at the local cafes, visit Hanging Rock…make a day of it.

Brace yourselves anyone in and/or near Ballarat Victoria. Sugar and Spice is coming to Ballarat in November!!! To be exact – the 28th of November in St Patrick’s Hall (Sturt Street). Even if you don’t live near there, Ballarat is in easy driving distance of Melbourne and has heaps of things you could do, think Sovereign Hill!!

Lots of indoor activities. It is raining here in Melbourne today. It is so lovely listening to the rain outside, but I have to say, as we near the end of winter, I am finding it harder and harder to keep the kids occupied inside!

She has some really cute little things in her new stores, I am very fond of the plastic bag/tea towel holder myself!

This gorgeous little man is 4 months old today! I simply cannot believe how fast the first 4 months of his life have gone by.

I love this age. I love that everytime he sees his hands he looks in amazement. I love how he squeals. I love how blows raspberries. I love how his arm gets stuck underneath him when he is rolling over. I love how his smile lights up my world. I love how his giggle makes my heart melt. I love his worried little expressions. But mostly I love how his whole face lights up when he sees his big brothers xxx

A few weeks back, I was lucky enough to win the gorgeous Kokka “petite flower chain” fat quarter from Kelani Fabrics. I LOVE this online fabric store. Elissa has such a fabulous range of fabrics.

I am still deciding what to use it for, it is going into my own personal little stash. I have something in mind for my new little niece, Charlotte, who is 8 days old, awww! I want to make her a keepsake card, so I told my sister-in-law that the card is still coming!
